Shanghai starts work on new Metro lines

Construction has started on three new lines being added to Shanghai’s Metro system. The Shanghai Daily reported that work has begun on the 40km-long Line 12, which will run from the northeast to the southwest of the city, including 32 stations. Line 13 meanwhile, will offer 14 stations along 16km of track linking the suburban Jiading district to downtown Jing’an district. Finally Line 16 will operate in Pudong’s Nanhui area, with 13 stations. Shanghai plans to expand its Metro network to more than 500km by 2014.
