Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa in the Maldives will launch a weekly programme of environmental activities from 22 April 2011. The ‘Green Friday’ programme is aimed at offering guests the opportunity to combine environmental awareness with their luxury holiday. The programme also includes nature walks, educational talks on marine life and biodiversity, yoga classes, and tree-planting activities. By night, guests can meet the resort’s chef in his garden for a dining experience featuring the local produce.
The programme will run alongside the resort’s other eco-friendly activities, such as the investment of a bottling plant, cutting the consumption of 240,000 plastic bottles a year, and use of solar energy to heat water in guests’ villas. The resort’s Eco Centre also focuses on marine protection, with turtles and manta rays conservations programmes.
