Sharjah hotel occupancy on a high

Recent statistics from Sharjah revealed that the Sharjah Light Festival has had a positive impact on the emirate. HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA) mentioned that hotel occupancy rates touched as high as 90% since the Festival was launched across a dozen locations including the East Coast.
The Sharjah Light Festival is an initiative to highlight the Arab and Islamic cultural heritage. This year the Festival celebrates the theme of Sharjah the Capital of Islamic Culture. Since its opening on 6 February, the Festival has attracted tens of thousands of families from across the country and the region.
Al Noman said that the Authority is keen to promote Sharjah as a global destination with rich Arab and Islamic civilizational heritage and culture. The emirate today boasts more than 9,000 hotel rooms catering to all groups of tourists. The Emirate also offers tourism infrastructure and amenities including luxury hotels, cultural centres and museums.”
Sharjah’s tourism industry has been growing at 10% annually. With its hotels and internationally acclaimed heritage, the Emirate continues to attract more and more international visitors year on year.
