Shimla will soon have female tourist guides in the city.
An overwhelming number of girls have enrolled for a training programme starting tomorrow (13 June) in tourism and tourist guide under Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgaar Yojna (SJSRY) scheme being implemented by the civic body in Shimla.
“We have got an overwhelming response from girls. Out of 40 candidates being trained from economically weaker sections, nearly half are girls. In the past also, tourism department had been training guides, but it is perhaps for the first time that female guides are being trained in Shimla,” Shimla’s Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Naresh Thakur told the Times of India.
