The carrier said the move was a result of a “sustained escalation in the price of jet fuel in recent months”. It’s the second increase in SQ’s fuel surcharge in less than two months, and once again the carrier insisted the increases offer only partial relief from recent jet fuel price rises.
For flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Bandar Seri Begawan, Bangkok, Denpasar, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Manila and Penang the surcharge will increase by US$2 to become US$20 per sector.
For the carrier’s long-haul flights between Singapore and gateways in the United States and Canada the levy becomes US$89 per sector, up US$7. And for all other flights the surcharge will increase by US$4 to US$58 per sector.
A statement from the airline said it would continue to monitor fuel prices and “keep the application of the fuel surcharge under active review”.
