Singapore among Top 3 for meetings

The UIA’s International Meetings Statistics 2006 reportshowed Singapore moving upone notch from 2005 to third position in the TopInternational MeetingCity category, just behind well-established European cities Paris(ranked 1st) and Vienna(2nd).
At the same time, Singaporecontinued to top the rankings in Asia as the top city for meetings, a positionit has held for the past 23 years, and Top Country in Asia.
The strong showing by Singaporeserves as a resounding endorsement of its strengths and continued draw as abusiness destination, especially in Asia whereit has cemented its pole position, accounting for 22% of all meetings in theregion in 2006.
Last year, Singaporehosted 298 meetings that met UIA’s qualifying criteria, representing asignificant 62% growth over 2005.
Most notable among these were the 2006 Annual Meetings of theInternational Monetary Fund and World Bank in September which attracted 16,000 foreign delegates.
