Auckland has been ranked as Asia Pacific’s top city in Mercer’s Quality of Living survey 2009. The New Zealand city beat Sydney, Wellington, Melbourne and Perth to the regional title, and trailed only Vienna, Zurich and Geneva in the global list. Singapore meanwhile ranked as the best city in the world in terms of infrastructure, based on electricity supply, water availability, telephone and mail services, public transport provision, traffic congestion and the range of international flights from local airports. Dubai topped the list in the Middle East, beating its close rival Abu Dhabi, which came third.
Mercer’s Quality of Living ranking covers 215 cities and is conducted to help governments and major companies place employees on international assignments. Mercer states that in 2008, the quality of living in many regions has been affected by serious political turmoil, increasing unrest and instability, health and climatic concerns. It added that the global financial crisis has become an area of increasing international concern. For more information please visit http://www.mercer.com/qualityofliving.
