Singapore has been ranked top in Asia for creating an attractive environment in developing the travel and tourism industry, according to a World Economic Forum report.
According to a statement from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), positive factors that weighed in on the ranking include government expenditure on the sector, strong destination-marketing campaigns, and country-level presence at key international tourism fairs.
It said Singapore also benefited from its excellent transport infrastructure.
The STB also recently rolled out a multi-million dollar initiative - Building on Opportunities to Strengthen Tourism (BOOST) - to drive demand for travel to the city-state and funding support for tourism businesses and training schemes.
STB’s Director of Strategic Planning, John Gregory Conceicao, said the ranking “is an indication of Singapore’s strengths in its tourism management and infrastructure. It will in turn strengthen our efforts to ride out the current downturn and position ourselves for future growth.”
