The new integrated resort, Marina Bay Sands, is among many world class MICE venues in Singapore.Singapore has retained its position as Asia’s Top Convention City and keeps its place in the world’s top five according to the latest global rankings by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).?The island state hosted the most rotating association meetings amongst all Asia-Pacific destinations in 2010. Its success is a product of a long-term strategy that proactively targets this MICE sector and is aligned closely with national economic development goals. For this reason it has been top of the rankings for almost a decade. Singapore held 136 rotating events in 2010, representing more than 14% growth since 2009. This came as no surprise to ICCA’s Chief Executive Officer, Martin Sirk, who commended Singapore for its development strategy and ability to stay on top; “It still takes great marketing effort in what are becoming ever-more competitive regional and global marketplaces, and the continued investment in great new facilities and human capital, so I applaud the hard work and creativity of all our Singaporean members.” Melissa Ow, Assistant Chief Executive of the Industry Development Group at Singapore Tourism Board (STB), attributed the success to the state’s strong business fundamentals, its commitment to MICE partners and the ability to continually reinvent itself as a business and leisure destination. Much of this success is also down to the STB’s Conference Ambassador Programme (CAP), which rewards opinion makers and industry leaders for their help in garnering hosing rights. These “ambassadors” represent Singapore in bidding for international business conventions and have facilitated in securing countless events.Ms Ow said; “Singapore is committed to fostering partnerships in the industry and will continue to leverage opportunities presented in this dynamic Asian climate to constantly create even more reasons for organisers to stage their events here.”Singapore’s Business Travel, and MICE industry looks set to continue its growth in the future with more events. The city secured 12 new World Congresses within the first half of 2011 alone, already breaching last year’s total of 14. These events span a variety of industries such as Lifestyle, Business and Trade, Social, Infrastructure, and Healthcare.
