Singapore signed the Open Skies Agreement (OSA) with the United Kingdom last week. The OSA, which was earlier concluded in October, will remove all restrictions on air services operated by Singapore and UK carriers.
Effective from end March next year, the agreement goes beyond conventional OSAs, by providing for unlimited “hubbing” and “cabotage” rights for carriers of both countries.
“With the opening of Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 and Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 in the coming year, it is my hope that this agreement will enable our carriers to expand their networks and enhance their connectivity at both airports,” Singapore’s Transport Minister Raymond Lim said in a statement.
Singapore also signed an OSA Slovakia last week. Singapore carriers will be able to operate flights as frequently as they like between Singapore and points in the Slovak Republic. They can also fly to points beyond Slovakia to any other city in the world. Similarly, Slovakia’s carriers can now operate any number of flights to Singapore and beyond.
