Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has reported a 26% year-on-year increase in visitors from the Middle East.
STB’s Director for the Middle East and Africa, Jason Ong, attributed the boom to the country promoting itself as family-orientated destination, which appeals to the Middle East market.
“We’ve recently opened the new resort, World Sentosa, which seems to be very popular with tourists from this region,” Ong told Travel Daily.
“We’ve also just opened Marina Bay sands next door to our central business district. Phase one of two has just opened last week. These are both two huge investments and they suit families really well.”
STB’s Regional Director for South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Randall Tan, said the resorts of Singapore boasted a range of attractions including a ladies club, shopping, fashion and restaurants.
“We want to promote our new hotels and attractions as well as the Your Singapore campaign, which really pushes the city as a great new destination,” he said.
“With 90% of Gulf Arab bookings to Singapore made through the trade, the Tourism Board is keen to introduce familiarisation trips and training programmes for key travel partners.
