Singapore registered a 49% year-on-year surge in tourism receipts in 2010, as the opening of the city’s two integrated resorts boosted average visitor spend. The SG$18.8 billion (US$14.8 billion) total was generated by 11.6 million visitors, with shopping, sightseeing, entertainment and accommodation making up 61% of total revenues. The annual arrivals number represented an increase of 20% year-on-year, with the top five source markets – Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Australia, and India – accounting for 53% of total arrivals. The most significant growth came from Asian markets; visitation from Malaysia surged 36%, followed by Thailand (+35%), South Korea (+33%), Hong Kong (+32%) and Indonesia (+32%).
