On June 2, from 2:30-4pm, Tata Communications and the Rendezvous Hospitality Group (RHG) will open Singapore ‘s first public Telepresence Room at the Rendezvous Hotel in Orchard Road, enabling Singapore-based executives to collaborate with their overseas counterparts through high definition and immersive video conferencing technology.
Cisco Systems’ Telepresence technology lets executives in different locations meet one another across a virtual table. Superior visual and audio transmission quality ensures that participants’ full range of facial and vocal emotions and body language are conveyed, making them feel like they are physically meeting in the same room. To date, most firms need to invest tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to build their own private Telepresence suites in order to enjoy this service.
With the public rooms pioneered by Tata Communications, however, executives in key cities worldwide will be able to hold virtual meetings with colleagues, customers, prospects and partners at affordable pay-per-use hourly rates.Telepresence public rooms are the next big thing for business enablement.
These rooms also have tremendous potential to cut business losses in times when air travel is curtailed, such as during the recent volcanic ash cloud episode. The media briefing will feature David Wirt, Tata Communications’ Global Head of Managed Services, Iqbal Jumabhoy, CEO of Rendezvous Hospitality Group and Chew Gek Khim, Chairman of RHG’s parent company, the Straits Trading Company Ltd.David, Iqbal and Gek Khim will discuss the rationale for this room, its capabilities, and Tata Communications and RHG’s plans to expand public Telepresence to more cities in the world.
