South Korea arrivals climb 25%

The number of foreign arrivals to South Korea rose by 25.6% in thefirst quarter, according to figures released by the country’s Justice Ministry,reported by the Korean Herald.
A total of 2.01 million foreign nationals came to South Koreaduring the three-month period, 1.4 million of the as tourists – a 38.9% increasefrom the same period last year.
The visitors, excluding flight attendants, came mainly fromJapan (855,448), China (306,611) and the United States(143,994), the report said. Japanese visitors had the biggest increase, with a61% rise from the 531,407 arrivals seen in Q1 2008. Visitors from Hong Kongrose by 38.0%, Vietnam by25.3%, and Chinaby 16.6%.
