The announcement was made following the submission of the latest report on the security situation in Sri Lanka by European travel advisories, a spokesman in the Ministry of Tourism told the Sunday Observer.
These countries have now withdrawn Sri Lanka from the list of travel risk countries.
This has resulted in an increase of tourist arrivals from Germany, England, France and the Netherlands by 12% in the last two months according to the news agency.
Whilst tourist arrivals from Belgium have surged by 42% in the same period the report added.
In 2007 the highest number of tourist arrivals recorded were from India which increased from 128,370 in 2006 to 215,562 in 2007.
The growth has also been attributed to the direct flight service between the two countries.
In the same period, the country also experienced a dramatic growth of arrivals from China that is reported to have almost doubled.
Chinese tourists are seen as the biggest spenders and the money they have pumped into the country have caused the foreign exchange to increase, the spokesman further added according to the report.
The Sri Lanka Tourist Board has taken steps to promote regional tourism with the implementation of two major development projects with facilities for a golf course, diving and wind surfing stations at Kalpitiya, Nilaweli and Trincomalee, the spokesperson from the Ministry of Tourism was quoted by The Sunday Observer as saying.
