The company said the new routes would link overseas destinations with Indonesian cities other than Jakarta.
“We will fly Malaysia and Singapore from Medan, Surabaya and Makassar,” Sriwijaya director Chandra Lie was quoted saying by economic daily Bisnis Indonesia.
“For our overseas routes, we choose to fly from Indonesia’s second cities. We have considered it (good) for the business,” he said, specifying the destinations in Malaysia as Ipoh, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
Sriwijaya will lease four Boeing 373-series. It currently operates 17 B-373 planes.
