Starwood Hotels & Resorts has confirmed the first member of its new Tribute Portfolio in the Asia Pacific region.
The company has signed The Kiroro, a mountain resort located in the ski fields of western Hokkaido. The property, which will be officially known as ‘The Kiroro, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Hokkaido’, has been signed as part of double deal with the Sheraton Hokkaido Kiroro Resort, with both properties scheduled to open in December 2015.
“We are excited to premiere Starwood’s 10th brand in Asia Pacific, only months after its launch,” said Rajit Sukumaran, Starwood’s senior vice president of acquisition & development for Asia Pacific.
“The Kiroro exemplifies the Tribute Portfolio brand’s independent spirit, geared for all travellers who value unexpected experiences and destinations.”
Located at the base of a ski slope in the Kiroro integrated mountain resort area, The Kiroro offers 282 rooms and suites, a gym, swimming pool, four F&B outlets and more than 1,400m² of function space, including a ballroom and four meeting rooms.
The new Sheraton Hokkaido Kiroro Resort is located nearby and both properties are 90 minutes’ drive from Sapporo‘s New Chitose Airport.
Starwood unveiled the Tribute Portfolio in April this year, with the brand’s inaugural property located in Miami. The concept is designed as an upscale “collection” of independently branded properties, complementing Starwood’s long-running Luxury Collection.
Several new hotels are expected to join the Tribute Portfolio in the coming months, including at least five locations in the US. Starwood is targeting 10 Tribute Portfolio hotels by the end of 2015 and 100 properties by 2020.
