Strikes ground Lufthansa flights

Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa was forced tocancel nearly 1,000 flights on Tuesday due to strikes by pilots, ChannelNewsAsia has reported. An airline spokesperson she that 464 of Tuesday’s 725scheduled flights on Lufthansa’s Eurowings and Cityline carriers were grounded,and a further 525 on Wednesday.
Pilots’union Cockpit called the strikes due to a breakdown in salary talks withmanagement. The union is seeking a 9.8% pay rise for its workers and a largershare of the airline’s profits. All of major airports served by Eurowings andCityline were reportedly affected by the action, which was scheduled to rununtil midnight on Wednesday.
