Within a few decades, strong Australian accents will have vanished. News.com.au has reported that according to a new book both overly posh and broad rural Aussie will die out, and be replaced by a “standard Australian” dialect.
The book’s author, lexicographer Dr. Bruce Moore has said these strong accent s were developed in the 1880s due to the British trend associating accent with education. According to Dr. Moore, however, this trend for elocution is now dying.
