Suntec Singapore to host APEC 2009 Leaders’ Week

Singapore, 3 November 2009 – Suntec Singapore International Convention &
Exhibition Centre, Asia’s leading convention and exhibition centre, is proud to be the main meeting venue for APEC 2009 Leaders’ Week.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
Since its inception in 1989, APEC has worked to reduce tariffs and other trade barriers across the Asia-Pacific region, creating efficient domestic economies and dramatically increasing exports. APEC was established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the region and to strengthen the Asia-Pacific community. APEC has 21 members – referred to as “Member Economies” – which account for approximately 41% of the world’s population, approximately 55% of world GDP and about 49% of world trade.
APEC’s 21 Member Economies are Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; The Republic of the Philippines; The Russian Federation; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States of America; Vietnam.

Since its inception in 1995 and following the success of the 2006 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group in 2006, the venue has hosted several high profile events such as the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in 1996 and the World Economic Forum in 1998 to SIBOS (SWIFT international banking operations seminar) in 2003.
The venue has also made its mark in hosting a myriad of iconic events of diverse nature within its premier convention facility. A versatile and flexible space spanning over 100,000 square metres, the venue has received a host of accolades and awards and has been recognised as one of the leading convention centres in Asia.
