Surat, in the west Indian state of Gujarat, will be the first place in the country to see the total solar eclipse on 22 July. To mark the event, Gujarat Tourism is hosting tourists and eclipse chasers, with many being accommodated by the local people free of charge, Anil Mathur reports. The tourism board hopes this will provide an opportunity for visitors to interact with the locals, and get to know the city better.
