Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be boosting its capacity with a series of new routes. From February 2012 the airline will add a new daily direct service between Zurich and Beijing, and will deploy a larger aircraft on the Zurich-New York (Newark) route. SWISS will also expand services from Geneva, adding Nice flights and increasing frequencies to Madrid, Moscow and London City Airport.
“I am delighted that… we can meet the needs of Swiss business and further expand our non-stop services to and from the growing Chinese market,” said SWISS CEO, Harry Hohmeister. “At the same time, we are also seeing a growing demand for tourist travel in both directions.”
The new Beijing flights add to the carrier’s existing flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong, while the Newark flight will switch from an all-business-class PrivatAir Boeing 737 to a three-class wide-body aircraft from 31 March 2012 onwards. The operation will also be expanded to daily service.
Nice will join airline’s Geneva-based network on 10 February 2012. The new flights will be operated twice daily using an Airbus A319, rising to a three daily flights in summer 2012. SWISS will also be adding a third daily frequency to its Geneva-Madrid route from 10 February 2012. Prior to that on 16 December 2011, SWISS will add a second daily flight to its Geneva-Moscow route, while Geneva-London City services will be raised from four to five daily flights with the start of the 2011/12 winter schedules on 31 October.
The airline will also cease operating its Geneva-Budapest services in October, although the Hungarian capital will still be connected via Zurich.
