Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines has become the first mainland Chinese airline to get approval to set up an office in Taipei, Xinhua has reported. The airline will initially set up a ‘preparatory office’ to house an airport liaison officer and an aircraft maintenance officer. For the time being, Taiwanese airlines Air China and EVA Air will continue to act as sales agents for China Eastern.
