Taiwan set for New Year tourist boom

According to a Xinhua report, Yao Ta Kuang, a senior official at the TaiwanTravel Agent Association, said that Taiwan tour operators had so farreceived more than 10,000 travel applications from mainland residents.
Taiwan travel agenciesreportedly estimate that Taiwan’snine-day Lunar New Year holiday will see an average of more than 1,000 mainlandtourists a day, with the total exceeding 10,000.
Yao said Taiwanoperators had prepared some special activities, such as a Lunar New Year’s Eveget-together at Taipei’sfamous Fisherman’s Wharf. In addition, the high-speed rail network is beinggeared up to transport thousands of tourists staying in cities. Hotels nearmajor attractions, including Ali Mountain and Sun-Moon Lake,were almost completely fully booked, the Xinhua report said.
