Taj Hotels is aiming to take advantage of the popularity of the Anglo-Indian movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, with the launch of a new tour of Rajasthan.
With the sequel to the movie being released this month, Taj is offering a new guided tour that features real-life locations from both movies, in both Jaipur and Udaipur.
The journey begins at Rambagh Palace, where the hotel concierge has designed a two-day off-the-beaten-track tour that includes the historic 13-storey-deep Chand Baori Well, the Kanota Fort, where lunch is served in the colonial-style lounge, and the Janta Bazaar flower market.
The journey then continues to Udaipur, where guests stay at the Taj Lake Palace – a hotel that is no stranger to movie buffs, as it featured in the James Bond film, Octopussy. Guests are also offered guided tour of the 17th Century Ravla Khempur – the real ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’- and treatments on a spa boat.
Starring several famous British and Indian actors including Judy Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel and Tina Desai, The Best Marigold Hotel follows the story of a group of elderly tourists travelling to India. The sequel, The Second Best Marigold Hotel, also stars Hollywood legend Richard Gere.
