Tamil Nadu arrivals rise 23% in 2008

Increased marketing efforts and upgrades to tourism infrastructure led to Tamil Nadu’s tourist arrivals growing 23% last year, The Times of India reported the state’s Minister of Tourism, N Suresh Rajan, as saying this week. The tourist arrivals, both domestic and foreign, increased to 64.7 million last year, up from 52.4 million in 2007. Tourist receipts hit INR62.4 billion, up from INR54.3 billion in 2007.
The Minister said that the state would now focus on providing new products such as eco-tourism, rural, medical, adventure and responsible tourism.
