TDA Face-to-Face: Vincent Guironnet, General Manager, Oberoi Rajvilas
1) Please can you give our readers a brief overview of your resort and its key selling features?
The Oberoi Rajvilas intends to revive the lifestyle of India’s legendary Rajput princes. Located just 8km from Jaipur, the resort is an oasis of luxury set in a traditional Rajasthani fort style with 32 acres of gardens and pools. The hotel has 54 premier rooms, 13 luxury tents, one royal tent, and three villas with private swimming pools. The property also includes the 280 year-old Shiva Temple and a Rajasthani ‘Haveli’ which have been carefully restored and converted in to a spa. The gardens of the Oberoi Rajvilas offer a peaceful atmosphere with the gentle trickle of fountains, reflection pool, moats with water lilies, pergolas entwined with climbing bougainvillea, green lawns, desert palms, trees, flower beds and herb gardens.
2) What are your key source markets, and are you noticing any key trends in terms of your business and nationality mix?
Our key markets sources are mainly the United Kingdom, USA, Spain, Mexico, and Germany. We have been noticing key trends with lot of groups coming from Brazil, Russia, Australia and Arab countries interested in visiting and exploring the sand dunes and the rich and vibrant culture of Rajasthan.
3) You are currently a member of Elite Resorts of Asia Pacific. How has this helped your business?
Being a member with this prestigious organisation has given us a lot of recognition around the world for our product and services. We have had many guests who have chosen to stay with us only after planning their travels with Elite Resorts of Asia Pacific and have enjoyed their visit to Jaipur and their stay at the Oberoi Rajvilas. Elite has played an essential part in the promotion of the facilities and services that we offer at our resort.
4) What new developments can we expect from your hotel over the next 12 months?
We are working on several special experiences for our guests. These include the ‘Mystic Indian Evening’ enabling guests to experience ‘Palmistry’ – the art of foretelling the future through the study of the palm. The mystical experience is complemented by a visit to the 280 year-old Shiva Temple for an evening prayer ritual, and an Indian meal at the Spa Herb Garden. Another new offering will be the elephant safari at Naila, which takes guests though the local countryside, including farms and quiet villages. After the 45-minute safari, a Jeep takes guests to the 150 year-old Naila fort. Finally a new bird book – Birds at Rajvilas – is being printed to offer guests an introduction to the birds that live at the resort.
