The Canary Islands and Egypt are among the first pick destinations for holiday makers booking Easter trips with A1 Travel.
Of all of the Easter breaks the firm has sold this season, 18% have been for Tenerife and 12% for Sharm el Sheikh, while Lanzarote comes in third place with 11% of the bookings.
Nick Lima who is head of e-commerce at A1 Travel said: “Historically Tenerife has always been in our top two most popular Easter break destinations that are booked online but I was surprised to see Sharm el Sheikh in second spot, above Lanzarote, considering the negative coverage Egypt has had in the last six months, but customers were enticed due to the heavy discounted hotel rooms being promoted.”
Sharm El Sheikh holidays have been growing in popularity over the past decade, offering beachfront resorts within a five-hour flight from most UK airports. Prices are the most decisive pull factor this season for Sharm El Sheikh, where it is easy to find five star accommodation at three star prices.
According to A1 Travel, couples are the main business drivers for Sharm El Sheikh, while families tend to head for Tenerife which has long been a popular Easter getaway.
