Thai AirAsia keeps on growing

While other airlines have eithermaintained or downsized flights in their industry’s severe downturn, ThaiAirAsia continues to move ahead with its network expansion. The low-costcarrier is on course to take delivery of three new Airbus A320 aircraft,enabling it to add six international destinations in Taiwan,China and India between September and earlynext year, the Bangkok Post reported.
The airline, owned 49% by Malaysia-basedAirAsia, is due to start flying from Bangkok to Taipei in September, before adding services to Mumbai and New Delhi around December.Kunming, Chengduand Guangzhouare due to join the network around the same time. A second daily flight on theBangkok-Hong Kong route is also expected to be introduced.
Airbus plans to deliver thethree twin-engine, narrow-body planes, each with 180 seats, to Thai AirAsia inSeptember, October and December. They will join the airline’s current fleet of16 jets – nine A320s and seven Boeing 737-300s. Two more new A320s are due tojoin the fleet next year as the B737-300s are gradually phased out.
