Less than two weeks after resuming normal flight operations through Bangkok’s two airports, Thai Airways said it is “delighted” by the recovery in passenger traffic, the Bangkok Post has reported. According to THAI’s Executive Vice-President, Pandit Chanapai, the long-haul markets from Europe, North America and Australasia have shown greatest resilience, with load factors on these routes returning to around 65%.
The recovery rate on THAI’s regional routes however, is reported to be slower. Sluggish demand from major markets including Japan, China and South Korea has seen load factors recover to around 60%, the report said.
“What delighted us is that over the past few days we began to see new bookings from the intercontinental market coming into our system, while those reservations that had been affected by the airport closures were returning,” the Bangkok Post reported Pandit saying.
He described those who rebooked as “diehard” visitors who have been to Thailand before, like the country and understand the local situation.
“These are the groups who have not diverted to other tourist destinations,” he added, highlighting the fact that the approach of the peak holiday season has also helped to drive long-haul traffic back to Thailand.
Thai Airways has now restored 95% of its normal flight capacity, Pandit added.
