Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) recently organized “THAI’s Commercial Conference: Strong and Sustainable THAI” during which the opening session was attended by Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI’s President and members of THAI Management.
The 2010 Commercial Conference, under the theme “Strong and Sustainable THAI” was held last week at THAI headquarter in Bangkok, to establish the company’s commercial and sales strategies. Over 200 managers and staff under the Commercial Department, from Thailand and overseas sales offices, attended the conference. As the airline industry is highly competitive, THAI’s Commercial Department must continuously make adjustments and develop strategies to maintain its competitiveness in the market, as well as prepare for unforeseen crisis, worldwide or local.
THAI is planning several initiatives, such as working more closely with its Star Alliance partners on connections and promoting its overall network, which is already one of Asia’s most extensive, rather than mainly Thailand. As a result, THAI managers, through a series of group discussions and seminars, produced an overall marketing plan to boost the company’s overall revenue.
Mr. Pruet Boobphakam, THAI Executive Vice President for Commercial, said that THAI, as the national carrier and having the largest number of inbound flights to Thailand, has been the most affected by the political troubles with up to 47 countries, at one stage, issuing travel advisories to their citizens not to travel to Thailand, even though much of the country was unaffected.
According to Mr. Pruet Boobphakam, “THAI must be proactive in reaching out and reassuring those countries and their citizens that Thailand is still a destination to enjoy holidays year round. No other destination compares to the gentle hospitality visitors receive everywhere throughout all of Thailand, the great Thai hospitality, cultural heritage, scenery, food, and overall great Thai experience - still intact and ready to welcome everyone back.”
The 2010 Commercial Conference focused various issues including future marketing strategies and direction, stressing the network sales for THAI beyond Bangkok such as domestic destinations or Indo-China. In addition, the conference reviewed the marketing directions for increasing sales and enhancing alternative sales channel through online sales, Royal Orchid Holidays travel package promotions, and adjustment of flight schedules for the summer and winter schedules, to be in line with the market and numbers of passengers.
