Thai Airways International Public Company Limited teamed up with the Royal Thai Embassy, the Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand and other Thai offices in the UK to organize “Thailand @ Trafalgar Square 2010″, which took place at London’s famous landmark, Trafalgar Square, on Saturday, 5 June 2010. Open to the public, this colourful festival aimed to strengthen the presence of the Thai community in the UK; to promote Thai culture as well as enhance the image of the country; and most importantly, to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand’s State Visit to London in 1960 and THAI’s founding.
Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said “As Thailand’s national carrier, THAI is always honored and proud to take part in events that promote Thailand’s culture, its cuisine, unparalleled tourism destinations and its many trade opportunities - all in one country. In reaching out to the world, THAI is actively campaigning to reassure the traveling public that Thailand continues to be a destination to enjoy year round. Few countries offer the gracious hospitality visitors receive throughout Thailand or such spectacularly beautiful terrain, from scenic hill country to white sandy beaches, coupled with a multitude of cultural heritage sites. Thailand and THAI look forward to welcoming visitors back to experience it all.”
At the Thailand @ Trafalgar Square festival, THAI showcased its booth to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand’s State Visit, highlighting Royal Orchid Holidays packages and offering attractive ticket prices. The festival was a not to be missed opportunity for London residents and tourists to come together to enjoy the array of Thai cultural performances and more. Visitors could enjoy traditional dances from the four regions of Thailand and demonstrations of the world-renowned martial art, “Muay Thai”. Thai Music Circle performed Thai classical music alongside an award-winning Thai artist, Koh Mr Saxman and his band to the tunes of contemporary music. For keen shoppers, a variety of fine Thai cuisine was being showcased at the festival as well as spa and other well-known products from Thailand. The festival had included a photo corner with the iconic Thai Tuk-Tuk taxis, an information desk offering advice on Thailand’s finest tourist destinations, and an areas to demonstrate the art of Thai sweet making as well as intricate fruit carving.
