Thai targets India’s weddings and conventions market
According to Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) figures, some 430,000 Indian tourists visited Thailand last year, and arrivals are expected to jump 15% to 500,000 this year, The Nation newspaper reported.
The TAT hopes to attract up to 600,000 Indian tourists in 2008, earning the kingdom Bt 16 billion by focusing on two main markets – weddings and meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE). TAT deputy governor Juthaporn Rerngronasa said the cost of weddings in India was three times higher than in Thailand.
