South Korea and Thailand have agreed to launch a 50-day joint culture expo in Bangkok next year, the Yonhap News Agency reported. The move is aimed a promoting bilateral friendship and cooperation, as well as publicising the histories cultures of the two nations.
Kim Kwan-yong, visiting Governor of South Korea’s North Gyeongsang province, and Thai Culture Minister, Teera Slukpetch, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bangkok to hold the Bangkok-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2010 from 20 October 2010. Precise details of the content and format of the event have not been revealed.
The Korean delegation’s visit to Bangkok followed a recent summit between South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, in which plans for the Expo were put into place.
At the MoU signing, Kim said he hoped “the organising committee will work to make the Bangkok expo a pilot project for cultural exchanges between South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).”
