The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has said that it will focus on generating greater tourist spending this year, rather than simply aiming to increase arrival numbers. The Nation reported Juthaporn Rerngronasa, the TAT’s Deputy Governor for International Marketing, as saying that a new campaign – ‘Amazing Thailand Amazing Value’ - has been developed to lure shoppers from across the region. In addition, the TAT will also promote medical tourism to Middle Eastern visitors and ecotourism to Europeans. Thailand’s Tourism & Sports Ministry has targeted 16 million arrivals this year; up from 14 million in 2009.
