There’s more to food on sea than people think

“Great food is one of the best ways to socialise and get together with friends and family to have fun and celebrate. It’s also one of the most important components of a great holiday and next to the weather, ‘what was the food like?’ is a standard question when returning from a break away. For many holidaymakers it is the memorable meals as well as the drinks that make a holiday and the destinations visited truly stand out.
As a working mum, the opportunity to dine out (and avoid the washing up!) is always a welcome treat and like most people I really enjoy quality food and fresh ingredients. Increasingly we are seeing our cruise guests take a real interest in the food available onboard, and agents wanting to know more about it as restaurants becoming a key area in selling.
The cruise industry has suffered from the common misconception that the food available onboard might be about quantity. However, dining at sea is a truly great experience and with a strong focus and investment in the restaurants, food and teams of chefs. At Celebrity Cruises we’re really proud of all things food onboard. Our speciality restaurants for example offer those paying a small supplement a selection of venues that are strong competition to some of the top restaurants in the world’s leading foodie destinations. From modern Italian dishes served in our Tuscan Grille, to classic French cuisine with a contemporary twist served in Murano, guests can enjoy the finest food from around the world.
At Celebrity Cruises we are keen to let our agents and guests know more about the food offer available onboard and our commitment to delivering a great dining experience. We were the first cruise line to exhibit at the popular foodie festival Taste of London in 2013 and returned again this year to showcase a selection of some of the dishes and wines guests can enjoy.
More recently we introduced a foodie element to our agents training programmes with a visit to one of London’s famous food markets, Borough Market. Agents were invited to tour some of the stalls, and meet the stallholders who were on hand to offer food to sample and talk to agents about its destinations and origins.
For those selling holidays not only are the multiple destination of a cruise a great selling point, but the access to an incredible range of different foods both on land and at sea is a recipe for booking success.”
