The new Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail services broke down for the third time in four days on Wednesday. In the latest incident a northbound train suffered a power failure and came to a halt at Changzhou, Jiangsu province. The China Daily reported that passengers had to wait for a back-up train, which finally arrived at Beijing South Railway Station around two-and-a-half hours behind schedule. No other services on the 1,318km line were affected.
The latest incident follows two previous service disruptions on Sunday and Tuesday due to power failures. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail line was only launched on 30 June 2011.
