Thomas Cook is to meet with the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) today to discuss the package prices during the Olympic weeks. LOCOG had become concerned that Thomas Cook was overpricing stays during the period and BHA said the hotels did not benefit from the higher rates. “Recent press comment concerning the prices that agents appointed by LOCOG – in particular Thomas Cook – are charging for Olympic ticket and hotel packages has suggested that London hotels are profiteering,” said Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of BHA. “This is certainly not the case “London hoteliers have no control over the prices that agents are charging.” Paul Deighton, CEO of LOCOG said London hoteliers had stuck to their agreement of fair pricing during the event, offering 56,000 room allocation at below market rates. Hoteliers cannot change the prices themselves and said the press reports of them profiteering were ‘unfounded’.
