More than 15,000 people headed to the India International Travel Mart (IITM) in Gurgaon this weekend.
The travel and tourism exhibition is in its 78th year and covered more than 150 participants with a B2B and B2C format.
Exhibitors ranged from tourism boards to hotels, airlines and cruises with support from associations including the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India, Indian Association of Tour Operators and the Outbound Tour Operators Association of India.
Rohit Hangal, director of organisers Sphere Travelmedia said: “With the present ongoing recession International Arrivals in India has dropped and India International Travel Mart provides the right impetus to the Indian domestic tourism industry. With a base of over 200 million discerning domestic travel seekers, it is a yearlong market, no hospitality and travel organization can ignore”.
In the year 2015 more than 18 million Indian people are expected to take an overseas holiday with low-cost airfares meaning more can now travel. International tourism expenditure has increased from US$8.2 billion in 2008 to US$15 billion in 2015.
