Thenew restrictions mean that foreigners can no longer acquire permits to enterthe region from the office of the Tibetan travel bureau in the southwesterncity of Chengdu where travelers can get a directflight to Lhasa.
Approvalfor travel will now be processed from the head office in Lhasa, that is operated under policesupervision.
RajeevKohli of Creative Travel Indiasaid “the new rules could cool the enthusiasm of foreign tourists if they arelimited to visiting Lhasa”and the new process of gaining permits becomes more complex.
Thenew restrictions have also created new concerns as Tibetan authorities hadhoped that the new train service would boost tourism.
