Tiger Airways Australia services have been grounded until 1 August 2011, amid continuing safety concerns. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) initially grounded Tiger’s services for a week until 9 July following two incidents in which the carrier’s pilots flew under the minimum permitted altitude. The extended grounding now cast doubts over the airline’s future in the country. Tiger announced this week that its Australian CEO, Crawford Rix will step down, being replaced by Tiger’s Group President, Tony Davis. Singapore-based Tiger said in a statement yesterday that it was “optimistic of returning to normal services”, and said it was committed to the Australian market. With future expansion planned in the Philippines and Indonesia however, it may decide that its future lies in the Asia Pacific region.
