Singapore-based budget carrier Tiger Airways left 200 passengers stranded overnight at a Perth airport as the flight was cancelled due to crew shortages, The Advertiser reported.
Tiger Airways Singapore, flight TR717 from Perth to Singapore, was postponed on Saturday night after the captain became concerned about his crew working overtime, the report said.
Because of its low-cost, the airline has no stand-by crew at destinations other than Melbourne and Singapore, the report said.
Matt Hobbs, spokesman for the airline’s sister company Tiger Airways Australia, was quoted saying that the international crew could work for 10 hours straight.
The passengers were told of the flight cancellation at 10.30pm, three hours after its scheduled departure.
The no-frills carrier has cancelled 10 flights due to crew shortages and illness since its November 23 domestic launch, the report said.
