In a novel solution to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, a Tokyo park has started playing a high-pitched tone that only young people can hear to help drive away teenagers. According to a Reuters report, the device, named “The Mosquito” emits a high-frequency tone that is unbearable to those who can hear it. People’s ability to hear high frequencies falls as they age, so The Mosquito is only audible to young people.
The device will be tested at the park from 11pm to 4am each night until March 2010.
