The Thai-Chinese Tourism Business Association as hatched plans to bring two million Chinese tourists into Thailand next year.
The Association plans to work closely with international partners to develop packages to cater specifically for the needs and aspirations of Chinese tourists. In September, members will attend the Chinese International Travel Mart in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, and another trade event in Kunming, Yunnan province, where they will undertake marketing and promotional activities.
According to the association, 793,266 Chinese tourists visited Thailand in the first six months of this year, putting arrivals up 68.1% year on year. It hopes to see as many as 1.5 million Chinese visitors this year and two million in 2012.
Wichit Prakobkosol, President of the association, expressed concern over certain issues which it sees inhibitors to growth. Speaking to the Nation newspaper, he highlighted the need for more charter flights between China and various tourism destinations in Thailand. Prakobkosol also called on Thai authorities to introduce Chinese signage in tourist areas and to step up tourist protection so they are not scammed while holidaying in Thailand.
