Tourism Malaysia and Vietnam Airlines formally signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to boost tourism flows between the two countries on Friday, 1st August.

The signing ceremony, held at Vietnam Airlines’ headquarters in Hanoi, marks a significant milestone in enhancing bilateral collaboration in the travel and tourism sector.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Malaysian minister of tourism, arts, and culture Tiong King Sing and Tourism Malaysia director-general Manoharan Periasamy, along with their delegation.

Representing Vietnam were Vietnamese minister of culture, sports and tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Vietnam Airlines chief executive Le Hong Ha, members of the airline’s Board of Directors, and senior officials from various departments.

An exchange of commemorative gifts during the ceremony further symbolised mutual goodwill, trust, and a shared commitment to long-term and sustainable collaboration between both nations.

A strategically vital partnership

During the ceremony, officials highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership in strengthening bilateral tourism ties.

Minister Tiong remarked: “This partnership with Vietnam Airlines is a strategic step forward in strengthening connectivity between our two nations. The growing air network not only supports tourism growth but also enhances people-to-people ties, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange. Through collaborations like this, we aim to achieve sustainable tourism and long-term mutual benefits for both Malaysia and Vietnam.”

Vietnam Airlines’ Le likewise expressed his delight in receiving the Malaysian delegation and underscored the MoC’s importance in advancing aviation and tourism cooperation.

He reaffirmed Vietnam Airlines’ commitment to working closely with domestic and international tourism authorities to expand connectivity, enhance customer experience, and foster cultural and economic exchange across the region.

What this means for Malaysia and Vietnam

The MoC marks a significant milestone in strengthening tourism ties between Vietnam and Malaysia, paving the way for joint marketing efforts and expanded growth opportunities.

Both parties will collaborate to promote travel between the two countries via Vietnam Airlines, with a focus on shared priorities and sustainable tourism development.

This partnership also supports Malaysia’s tourism promotion strategies and enhances the link between a leading Vietnamese carrier and one of Southeast Asia’s premier destinations.

In the coming months, Vietnam Airlines and Tourism Malaysia will roll out a range of joint initiatives, such as co-branded marketing campaigns, familiarisation trips, event collaborations, communications support, and information exchange.

A key focus will be to position Malaysia as a premier destination for both leisure and business travel, with Vietnam Airlines promoted as the preferred carrier for Vietnamese travellers.
