The newly appointed Minster of Tourism, Subodh Kant Sahay, called for more regional cooperation among South Asian countries as he inaugurated the 18th South Asia Travel and Tour Expo (SATTE) in Delhi on Friday.
“South Asian countries have a long way to go to attract tourists as we get less than 1% of inbound tourists from the region.
We need to promote a sense of honourable and secure Tourism. Such events [SATTE] provide an excellent platform for this exchange,” he said.
Sahay told hundreds of delegates present to cooperate not just in safety and security, but encouraged regional partners to share market intelligence and collaborate to bring more visitors to the region.
As a means of doing so, the Minister said promoting key niche markets are a good way to get ahead.
Eco, rural and medical tourism were among the niches that he chose to mention.
Meanwhile, ‘Incredible India’ remains a key vector for promotion for destination India, both at home and abroad.
In order to drive more tourist traffic to the country, the ministry will be organising tourism expos in India and abroad to present Incredible India to the whole world.
