The Travelife Sustainability system has secured EU funding to become integrated with the European Eco label. Under the deal, which is part of a three-year eco-innovation project, accommodation suppliers that have the Travelife Gold award will qualify for the EU criteria. The news comes after TUI UK and Ireland Distribution Director Nick Longman told delegates at the ABTA Travel Convention that the operator will stop selling hotels who will not comply with its green standards. TUI expects 25% of its customers to be staying in Travelife approved hotels by the end of the month. “We are working towards having all of our suppliers Travelife-awarded within five years and have 50% of our customers staying in Travelife-approved hotels by next summer,” added TUI UK and Ireland Director of Purchasing Garry Wilson.
