A number of Indian expatriates who had made travel plans out Dubai for the forthcoming summer months have complained of duped by a travel consultant.According to emirates247.com, he had offered ‘huge discounts on tickets’ and had disappeared after pocketing the money, customers had alleged. Tickets worth Dh4,000 were given for as less as Dh1,700-Dh1,800.Several passengers who had booked tickets through this absconding agent are now trying to avail refund and seek alternative routes to travel, the report said.Mohammed Nazir, Manager, Al Diyafa Travel and Tourism LLC, was quoted saying that an employee had stolen documents and office material and sold tickets on the road offering huge discounts. “We have repaid 30 victims of fraud who came ..with proper receipt. ost of them don’t have receipts for ticket bookings and the employee has been absconding,” he was quoted saying. The employee had apparently absconded after selling airline ticket to 200-odd Indian customers. The employee has apparently booked tickets for companies, schools and individual families and friends, and pocketed the money, the report said.”He has been working with us since the past 10 months only, according to Nazir. The report added that the company would still refund tickets to anyone who comes with a proper receipt. The fraud came to light when one of the victims could not travel on 3 June as his ticket was found invalid at the airport.
