Travelport has entered an agreement with Russia’s largest domestic GDS Sirena-Travel. The two have formed the partnership in order to work together to enhance the current international travel booking process in Russia and create a more efficient distribution for airlines. It is estimated that the new link to international content will provide more than 40% of Sirena-Travel’s connected agents with the ability to book international flights for the first time, as many are small and regional businesses. It has also been confirmed that two major international carriers have already signed up to make their fares and inventory available. “Our recent consumer market research in Russia has shown major frustrations amongst Russian travellers over the lack of information available and the time it takes when making a flight booking,” said Travelport Managing Director for Eastern Europe Niklas Andreen. “Today’s announcement is very much a continuation of our ongoing investment strategy and focus on this region and our preferred approach of partnering with strong, local players to expand our offering,” added JSC Sirena-Travel Director of the Commercial Department Marina Volodina. The two are also reviewing e-ticketing solutions for the Russian airline industry.
