Travelzoo reveals Brits love to haggle

Global travel and entertainment deals publisher Travelzoo has revealed that British tourists more likely to haggle for a cheap holiday deal than other Europeans. In addition, once overseas, Brits are keen negotiate on prices with local vendors. The survey, which was part of Travelzoo’s search for Britain’s Savviest Traveller, received more than 2,000 responses from people across the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Meanwhile, the company discovered that six out of 10 travellers are now more inclined to negotiate with their travel providers than in 2008 while the same proportion of respondents also spend more time researching their holiday than two years ago. In addition, British travellers are most likely to have changed the way they deal with travel providers - 74 per cent responded that they are more likely to haggle with their travel provider now than two years ago, compared to 39 per cent of Germans. Almost 80 per cent of Brits now regularly ask their travel supplier for a better deal before committing to spending money on travel. French travellers are more likely than other Europeans to spend more time checking travel prices before they book - 72 per cent of French respondents said they spend more time now than two years ago, compared to 60 per cent in other countries. Almost seven out of ten Brits also said they’d take their money-saving approach with them on holiday, with 68 per cent agreeing they are now more likely to negotiate with vendors on their travels. In comparison, only 40 per cent of Spanish and German travellers said they would be more likely to haggle with vendors on holiday.
